What I Learned About Being a Professional Organiser... From My Garden
One of the reasons we fell in love with our current home is that it has a garden, something we'd never had before. We were enthusiastic and committed to turning our little patch of grass into a verdant oasis, perfect for sipping G&Ts and lazing about with a good book. The reality, though, was that we were complete novices, and the project quickly became overwhelming.
We'd spend our weekends at the garden centre, excitedly buying plants, only to watch them die while the weeds grew out of control. We'd read a few books, watched some YouTube videos, and thought we knew what we were doing but a little knowledge can be dangerous, and we'd tried to run before we could walk.
Fast forward five years (!) of trial and error (mostly error), and our garden had become a pain point rather than a joy. We felt demoralised as we'd spent so much time and money on something that, instead of bringing us pleasure, became a visible reminder of failure every time we opened the patio doors.
That's when we finally decided to get the professionals in. It's one of those decisions in life we wish we'd made years earlier. Our garden designer immediately identified our soil type, the aspect, which plants would thrive where, and how to make it all fit with our own style and aesthetic. Now we have a beautiful, restful space that we actually use which a real extension of our living space.
Here's the thing: we hire professionals for all sorts of jobs in life. So why did I as someone who works in the service industry myself have such a blind spot about hiring a professional for my own garden? Basically we thought that we could and should be doing it ourselves. We were wrong. Not everyone is green-fingered and not everyone has the natural ability to organise their home in the most efficient way.
So here's what I want to say to you: if something in your home isn't working, if it's something you've struggled with, never quite got on top of, or that hasn't lived up to what you hoped for — don't leave it any longer. Don't do what we did and wait years before you can properly enjoy your space.
Get in touch today, and let's chat about how I can help you create a space you'll actually love to come home to.
